Forest Service to study sacred site concerns

The U.S. Forest Service will take extra time to determine whether to allow motorized travel in the sacred Badger-Two Medicine area in Montana.

The agency plans to issue a travel plan next month for 392,000 acres of federal lands. But due to concerns raised by the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, the 130,000-acre Badger-Two Medicine area will be the subject of additional study.

Badger-Two Medicine is located on the southwestern edge of the Blackfeet Reservation. The tribe is offering to co-manage the land to enforce travel restrictions.
