Wiyot Tribe holds annual candlelight vigil

The Wiyot Tribe in northern California is holding the 15th annual Indian Island Candlelight Vigil on Saturday.

The tribe started the vigil to commemorate the ancestors who were massacred on February 26, 1860. Nearly 100 men, women and children were killed during the tribe's World Renewal Ceremony, which was never completed.

The tribe has succeeded in reacquiring land on Indian Island, considered to be the center of the world. Chairwoman Cheryl Seidner says the World Renewal Ceremony will be completed after the island has been cleaned up.
