The New Mexico Court of Appeals has upheld the sovereign immunity of Ohkay Owingeh, formerly known as San Juan Pueblo.
The former executive director of the tribe's gaming commission sued after he was terminated. But the tribal court dismissed the case.
Robert Kosiba then took his lawsuit to the state court system. But the appeals court said he failed to show that the tribe waived its sovereign immunity.
