Court asked to prevent First Nations rail blockade

Canada's largest railroad company is asking a court to prevent First Nations in Manitoba from blocking rail lines later this month.

Several First Nations plan to stop rail traffic on their reserves for 24 hours on June 29. The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs voted unanimously for the blockade in hopes of pressuring the Canadian government into resolving outstanding land claims.

Canadian National says it has no role in settling land claims and says the blockade would be unsafe and cause economic harm.
