The Navajo Nation Council committee failed to act on legislation to join the National Congress of American Indians but advanced another measure to join the National Indian Gaming Association.

Delegate Larry Anderson Sr., the sponsor of the bill, said he was disappointed that no one in the InterGovernmental Relations Committee supported it. Back in 2005, he promised NCAI that he would try to get the tribe to join.

Meanwhile, the same committee approved legislation to join NIGA. The tribe is getting ready to open its first casino later this fall.
