Piapot First Nation signs deal for urban reserve

The Piapot First Nation of Saskatchewan has signed a deal to create an urban reserve in Regina, about 31 miles away.

The tribe bought land in the north-central part of the city. Plans call for a grocery, pharmacy, offices and other development.

The city has agreed to forego property taxes. But the First Nation will pay for policing, fire and other services.

The proposal has to be approved by the Canadian government before the land is treated as a reserve.
