Two Picuris Pueblo leaders face alcohol charges

The governor of Picuris Pueblo in New Mexico has been charged with illegal possession of alcohol and a tribal council member has been charged with drunken driving.

Gov. Richard Mermejo was having a party at his home last Thursday. The Bureau of Indian Affairs responded and found liquor, which is illegal on the reservation.

While the officers were there, council member Manuel Archuleta drove up to the home and tried turn around when he saw the officers. He was stopped and told officers he was making a beer run. He was charged with drunken driving.
