Navajo Head Start in Shiprock ready to reopen

The Navajo Nation is preparing to reopen its Head Start program in Shiprock, New Mexico.

The tribe lost $27 million federal funds for the program after a review by the Administration for Children and Families found employees with criminal records. That was back in May 2006.

The suspension was lifted in October 2006 and some Head Start centers were reopened. The one in Shiprock, which serves over 400 student, is scheduled to reopen this fall.

Over 4,000 children throughout the reservation are served by Head Start.
