Hopi chairman ousted after less than a month on job

For the second time in less than a year, the Hopi Tribe of Arizona has gotten rid of its chairman.

This time it was Ben Nuvamsa, who has been on the job less than a month. The tribal council voted 10-8 to remove him, saying he didn't meet the residency requirements to hold public office.

Nuvamsa said he will fight the decision. "I still consider myself and the people still consider me as the chairman of the tribe," he told The Arizona Daily Sun.

Nuvamsa was elected to replace Ivan Sidney, who was removed as chairman last October for an alcohol-related incident.
