Poarch Creek woman, oldest in tribe, turns 100

Members of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians celebrated the 100th birthday of Willie Martin on Thursday.

Martin is the oldest living member of the tribe. Born in 1907, she was raised in Alabama, where the tribe is based, but lives in Mississippi, where she raised three children and 50 family members.

"I just worship this lady, she always disciplined us and she taught me some great values in life," nephew Joseph Madison told WLOX-TV.

Although she outlived her husband and children, Martin has 11 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
