HIV/AIDS cases rise among Indians in Minnesota

American Indians and Alaska Natives have the third highest rate of new HIV/AIDS cases in Minnesota, the state Health Department reported on Monday.

In 2006, there were 10 new HIV/AIDS cases among Native Americans. That represented 3 percent of the all new cases in the state where Native Americans are 1.1 percent of the population.

Among Native Americans, the rate of new HIV/AIDS cases in 2007 was 12.3 per 100,000. That was the third-highest in the state.

In 2005, the state reported just 3 new cases of HIV/AIDS among Native Americans.
