Company turns to reservation for temporary workers

A printing company in South Dakota has turned to the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation to find temporary employees.

Midstates Printing is located in Aberdeen, about 100 miles from the reservation. To address a shortage of workers, the owner came up with the idea to contact the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

With unemployment rates as high as 90 percent, the Tribal Employment Rights Office was eager to help. "We have a work force here but no work," Lisa Lengkeek, the office director, told the Associated Press.

Workers from the reservation are transported to Aberdeen to work in shifts for Midstates. Lengkeek hopes to expand the effort to other reservations and more businesses.
