Tulalip Tribes break ground on housing project

The Tulalip Tribes of Washington broke ground on a new housing project this month in hopes of alleviating a housing shortage on the reservation.

The 41 homes are part of a 60-home development. The tribe has 240 families on the waiting list for housing.

The tribe's housing program was suspended by the Department of Housing and Urban Development after the former executive director was indicted for misusing funds. The tribe has addressed several issues and now has complete access to $6 million.

Herman Williams Jr. will take over the program. He recently resigned from the tribal board after testing positive for marijuana use.
