NCAI unveils anti-meth toolkit at midyear conference

The National Congress of American Indians unveiled an anti-methamphetamine toolkit aimed at helping tribes combat the drug on reservations.

The "No Meth in Tribal Communities" features information for schools, courts, law enforcement and health communities. "This is groundbreaking in terms of having tools to fight meth abuse that is specifically tailored for tribal comm," said NCAI President Joe Garcia on the opening day of NCAI's midyear conference in Anchorage, Alaska.

Developed in conjunction with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Montana State University, the toolkit will be available for $130 through NCAI.

In related news, the Sac and Fox Nation of Oklahoma has purchased dogs that can smell meth. Authorities said drug traffickers are using highways that pass through tribal lands to transport meth from Texas and Oklahoma.
