Voting rights lawsuit filed for Alaska Natives

The Native American Rights Fund and the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska filed a lawsuit in federal court on behalf of Yup'ik voters.

NARF and ACLU say the state is not doing enough to help voters whose first language is Yup'ik. They want oral and written assistance provided "in all phases of the electoral process," the Associated Press reported.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Anna Nick, 69; Billy McCann, 78; and Nellie Moses, 72. All speak Yup'ik as their primary language but have limited understanding of English.
