First Nations cultural center in Quebec vandalized

A First Nations cultural center in western Quebec was vandalized as the community was prepared to mark National Aboriginal Day on Thursday.

Vandals painted swastikas and the words "White Power" and "SS" on the center at the Kitigan Zibi First Nation. They also overturned picnic tables and destroyed a teepee.

"People are really sullen right now because they're really disgusted with what has occurred," police chief Gordon McGregor told CBC News. He said it was the community's first hate crime.

Kitigan Zigi is an Algonquin community near the town of Maniwaki.
