Chickasaw Nation spent $14K on watches

The Chickasaw Nation spent $13,596 on watches that were given to state lawmakers and some state officials, The Oklahoman reports.

The watch, which features the official state centennial emblem, was a show of goodwill, a tribal spokesperson said. The Chickasaws are the only tribe that is a sponsor of the state's centennial celebration.

Not everyone accepted the nearly $100 gift. Six lawmakers returned the watches, one paid for it out of his own pocket and the other 142 kept them. Eight state officials also received them.

"I just didn't feel good about accepting a gift like that," said Rep. Mike Shelton, who reimbursed the tribe for the watch.
