Lummi Nation develops hazard mitigation plan

The Lummi Nation of Washington has updated its hazard mitigation plan to address natural hazards on the reservation.

The plan identifies 11 hazards: river and coastal flooding, wind storms, severe winter storms, earthquakes, tsunamis, coastal erosion, drought, wildfires, landslides, tornados and volcano danger. The plan also lists potential hazard-related improvements.

The tribe now qualifies for grant assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Back in 2004, the tribe was the first in the nation to complete its plan, which must be updated every three years.
