Native villages worried about increased drilling

The Association of Village Council Presidents is worried about gold mining claims being staked out near several villages in southwest Alaska.

Gold Crest Mines of Washington began drilling for gold and has increased its claims. That has villages worried about the impact on subsistence hunting and fishing.

The company hasn't said whether it will open a mine but is encouraged by the initial drilling results.
