Chickasaw Nation weighs $300K for governor

The Chickasaw Nation Legislature will vote Friday on a proposal to raise the pay for Gov. Bill Anoatubby from $100,000 to a whopping $300,000.

Anoatubby is already the highest compensated tribal official in Oklahoma when longevity bonuses and retirement contributions are taken into account. The new raise would bring his total earnings package to $715,000 per year.

If the resolution is approved, Lt. Gov. Jefferson Keel's pay would rise from $80,000 to $200,000 a year. His longevity and retirement benefits would bring him to $390,000 a year.

Principal Chief Chad Smith of the Cherokee Nation makes $112,444.80 a year, plus $500 a month for travel. Principal Chief A.D. Ellis of the Muscogee Nation makes $100,000 a year. Chief Jim Gray of the Osage Nation will be making $95,000.
