Hollow Water First Nation erects blockade

The Hollow Water First Nation in Manitoba is blocking a road to a housing subdivision that was built on traditional land.

The blockade began on September 14. Band members are standing guard around the clock to limit access to the residents of the area. Roads to hunting and logging areas also have been cut off.

Chief Ian Bushie says the band wasn't consulted about the development. He wants the government to negotiate a deal to end the dispute.

"We're going to sit here and we're going to dig our heels in," Bushie told CBC News. "We're also going to, if need be, up our efforts."
