Letter: Anger and disgust at Cherokee Nation

"I write this letter with anger and disgust of the Cherokee Nation.

I have been married to my wife for 26-plus years, who is a card-carrying Cherokee. In these 26 years I have not seen any improvement in health care, education or housing.

My ex-daughter-in-law has been on a waiting list for housing assistance for six years. My son tried to get education assistance and was told he would have to qualify for a state or federal grant first. You have to sit all day at the health clinic to see a doctor and get your medications.

Chief Chad Smith has been called a racist because of the freedmen issue. I see it every day in the employment ads, applicant selection given Indian preference.

Since the beginning of time countries have conquered other countries, and Indian tribes have raided other Indian tribes. I say it is time to dissolve the Indian nations and become one nation under God. If they can make changes to treaties so can the U.S. government."
