Former Oglala vice president on trial for theft
Eileen Janis, a former vice president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, went on trial on Tuesday for alleged theft.
Janis is accused of stealing more than $22,000 from the tribe in 2004. She allegedly became involved in a "financial snowball" over tribal payroll advances, The Rapid City Journal reported.
Janis was one of three people charged in the theft. The tribe's former treasurer and a former payroll supervisor pleaded guilty.
