Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe receives HUD grant

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts received a $669,500 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The money comes from HUD's Indian Housing Block Grant program. It will be used to add two housing employees and rehabilitate existing housing. Future plans include an affordable housing development on land the tribe is seeking to have placed in trust.

The grant is the tribe's first significant one since its federal recognition was finalized in May.
