Village protests Census Bureau's tribal policy

A village within the boundaries of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin is protesting the U.S. Census Bureau's tribal policy.

The tribe is participating in the 2010 Local Update of Census Addresses program. It allows state, local and tribal governments to update addresses in order to ensure a more accurate count.

The village, however, says the tribe can't update information it doesn't have. The village is worried that changes in the census could affect federal and state funding.

The tribe is participating in the program to cover nine municipalities and two counties within reservation boundaries. The municipalities can still submit their own updates, the Census Bureau said.
