Fond du Lac Band ready to launch bus service

The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is starting its own bus service this month.

The service will offer service from the reservation to Cloquet and Duluth. Two buses will operate on a call system.

“The buses arrived on the reservation with the phone number on the side, and the phone number wasn’t operational yet,” economic development planner Amy Wicklund told The Duluth News Tribune. “People were calling the front desk saying, ‘Send over that bus.’ ”

The tribe bought the buses for $120,000 with Federal Transit Administration money secured by the state. Salaries for the drivers will be paid by the tribe.
