Charges dropped in 2-year-old Native girl's death

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police dropped charges against two foster parents for the death of a two-year-old Native girl in Manitoba.

Heaven Traverse was from the Fisher River First Nation. She died in foster care in January 2005 after apparently suffering injuries.

Douglas and Darlene Sutherland were charged in connection with Heaven's death and were due to go to trial this Friday. But all charges were stayed due to lack of evidence, a prosecutor said.

Heaven Traverse was one of two Fisher River children who died in foster care in 2005.
