Man sues Prairie Island Tribe for membership

A man is suing the Prairie Island Indian Community of Minnesota in hopes of being enrolled.

Lawrence Larson said the tribal council previously agreed to enroll his family. But that never happened and he wants damages dating back to 1991, an amount that could come to $3.8 million for himself. He also wants money for his daughter and his deceased mother’s estate.

The suit was filed in tribal court. It alleges violations of the Indian Civil Rights Act, the tribal constitution and tribal law.
