School for Indian Christians to sell campus, downsize

The Cook School for Christian Leadership in Tempe, Arizona, is selling its campus and downsizing amid dwindling enrollment and a drop in financial support.

The 41-year-old campus it set to close in May 2008. The 16-acre campus is worth about $40 million, the school president said.

A German immigrant named Charles Cook founded the school, which is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, in 1911 to train Indian students for leadership positions in churches and in their communities. Members of about 100 tribes have attended.
