Muscogee Nation accused of misusing $69M

A federal whistleblower lawsuit accuses the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma of misusing $69 million in Native American Housing and Self Determination Act funding.

Robert Jack was the executive director of the tribe's housing authority. He says the tribe mismanaged its NAHASDA funds and didn't use them to provide housing for tribal members.

Jack and other housing authority officials were fired in April 2004, when the tribe took over the housing authority. A board of commissioners had been managing the authority.

The suit was filed under the federal False Claims Act that allows claimants to recover a share of any damage awards. The federal government declined to intervene.
