Tohono O'odham student a star on and off the court

As a star basketball player, powwow princess and traditional dancer, Wynona Peters is proud to represent her family and the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona.

Peters, 17, is a senior at Salpointe Catholic High School. She is considered one of the top girls' basketball players in southern Arizona and will be leading her team in the 5A state tournament this week.

Peters is also active in her community. As the reigning Wa:k Pow-Wow Princess, she has won several tribal pageants, has competed in Miss Indian World and performs with a basket dancing group.

After graduation, Peters will be heading to the University of San Diego. She hopes to become a doctor to practice medicine on the reservation.
