Winnebago artist's murals to stay put at high school

Murals by renowned Winnebago artist Chuck Raymond won't be painted over, the principal of a high school in Sioux City, Iowa, said.

There were rumors that the four murals painted by the late artist were going to be removed when new artwork for the West High School was created. But that's not true, principal James Vanderloo said.

"There has never been a discussion to move, alter or paint over this wonderful work," Vanderloo told The Sioux City Journal.

Raymond, who also made sculptures and drawings, painted the murals in the late 1970s. He died in 1989.
