Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe sued for kids' deaths

The father of two children who died in a foster home is suing the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe for wrongful death.

Tiffany and Travis Lewandowski, ages 7 and 4, died in the care of Marlys Robertson in January 2005. Their father, Greg Lewandowski, alleges Robertson was taking care of more children than allowed.

According to news reports of the incident, Robertson took in two extra children while they waited for permanent placement by the tribe's foster care program.

Lewandowski is seeking $5 million from the tribe and its insurance carrier. The suit was filed in federal court.
