Quinault woman pleads guilty to crash that killed two

Sela Anne Kalama, a member of the Quinault Nation of Washington, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with a car crash that killed two Indian teenagers.

Kalama, 20, admitted responsibility for driving her car into the Elwha River on March 18. Ronnie L. Scroggins, 15, who was a member of the Makah Nation, and Vanna K. Francis, 17, who was a member of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, died.

The incident occurred on the Lower Elwha Klallam Reservation. Kalama was due to be tried in federal court before she reached her plea.

Sentencing takes place March 7, 2008. Kalama faces 16 to 36 months.
