Ousted Northern Cheyenne president arrested

Eugene Little Coyote, the former president of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana, was arrested on Tuesday as the Bureau of Indian Affairs again refused to recognize his leadership.

Little Coyote was arrested on a warrant for criminal mischief. The warrant was apparently based on his occupation of tribal offices last month after he was removed as president.

"That's just total harassment," Little Coyote's lawyer told The Billings Gazette. "The BIA has gone berserk."

The BIA is instead recognizing former vice president Rick Wolfname as leader of the tribe. Little Coyote and Wolfname were running mates but their relationship soured sometime last year and they got into a physical altercation at tribal headquarters.
