Ousted Northern Cheyenne leader sues BIA

A federal judge will hold a hearing today in a lawsuit filed by the ousted president of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana.

Eugene Little Coyote sued the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Interior Department. He says federal officials are unlawfully interfering with the tribe's internal governance and he is asking the judge for a temporary restraining order on the BIA decision that recognized Rick Wolfname as president.

Little Coyote was elected in 2004. Wolfname was his running mate but their relationship soured last year.
