Shoshone Band to receive cemetery in Utah

The owners of a cemetery in Utah will donate the five-acre site to the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation.

The cemetery was long thought to be in the hands of the tribe. But records showed that it belonged to George M. Ward, a former Mormon bishop.

Now, two of Ward's descendants said they will turn over the site to the tribe. More than 200 Shoshones are buried there.

The site is surrounded by the tribe's 180-acre reservation.
