Stillaguamish Tribe to hold first elk hunt in years

The Stillaguamish Tribe of Washington plans to hold its first elk hunt in more than a decade.

The Nooksack elk herd numbered up to 1,700 in the early 1980s, but dwindled to fewer than 350 in recent years, The Everett Herald reported. Tribes in the area have spent more than $1 million to restore the animals.

The Stillaguamish Tribe has issued 15 permits this winter. The herd numbers around 600 elk.
