Red Lake chairman delivers annual address

Red Lake Nation Chairman Floyd Jourdain Jr. delivered the annual State of the Band on Wednesday.

Jourdain said the tribe saw success last year. He cited the retirement of a $27 million debt, the resumption of the commercial walleye fishery and improvements in law enforcement.

In 2008, Jourdain said the tribe will expand one of its casinos, open a new Red Lake Boys & Girls Club, build a $3.1 million greenhouse and complete a $3 million phase of a criminal justice complex.

"It’s going to be a big year for us," Jourdain said, The Bemidji Pioneer reported. “Everything about this tribe is preparation for the future. We have to leave things in place that will not benefit us directly but will benefit the next generation."
