House Appropriations hearing on BIA and OST budget

The House Interior Appropriations subcommittee is holding a hearing this Wednesday, March 5, on President Bush's budget request for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians.

The Interior Department's $10.7 billion budget request for 2009 includes $2.2 billion for the BIA, a cut of nearly $100 million. It seeks $181.6 million for OST, a cut of $7.7 million.

Assistant secretary Carl Artman and Special Trustee Ross Swimmer are set to testify at the hearing. It takes place at 10am in Room B-308 of the Rayburn House Office Building [Interior subcommittee].
