Tribal ally in California seeks U.S. House seat

California State Sen. Tom McClintock (R) announced his candidacy for the U.S. House on Tuesday.

McClintock has earned praise for his views on tribal sovereignty. When he ran for governor in the state's 2003 recall election, he received $2.7 million in tribal contributions. He endorsed the four tribal gaming propositions in the recent February election.

McClintock is seeking the seat being vacated by Rep. John Doolittle (R-California), who is retiring amid an investigation into his ties to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
