Mohegan Tribe takes top child welfare honor

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut has been honored as the “Corporate Advocate of the Year” by the Child Welfare League of America.

The tribe was recognized for its health care, child-safety initiatives, educational programming programs and for supporting at-risk and disadvantaged children and families. The award was presented during a February 26 ceremony in Washington, D.C.

“It was a huge, huge honor and privilege to be given that award,” Vice Chairwoman Lynn Malerba told The New London Day. “We were there in front of all the folks who work in the field of child welfare. I feel our contributions pale in comparison to what they do every day.”
