Remembering the Children tour makes final stop

The Remembering the Children tour made its final stop in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Monday.

The tour started last week in Ottawa. It aims to promote the upcoming Truth and Reconciliation Commission on residential schools.

Along the way, church leaders apologized for their role at the government-sanctioned schools. Some students suffered physical, sexual and mental abuse.

"I took it as a personal apology to me for the wrongs that were done in residential schools," survivor Ted Quewezance told CBC News.

The Canadian government is preparing a formal apology for its role. The government settled abuse claims for $2 billion.
