Bad River Band narrowly votes to recall chairwoman

Members of the Bad River Band Lake Superior Chippewa voted 260 to 247 to recall Chairwoman Loretta Livingston.

But some tribal members are disputing the legality of the election. An ad hoc committee decided to bar off-reservation tribal members from voting on the recall petition.

Bea Moore-Reas told The Ashland Daily Press the decision "coercive, disturbing and not ethical." "It's Russia at best," she said.

Eugene Bigboy Sr. was reinstated as chairman. He came in second to Livingston in a November 2007 election.
