Fired Washoe administrator cites discrimination

The former administrator for the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California says she was fired because she is not Indian.

Nancy Kerry started working for the tribe in late 2006. In the first few days, she says she was warned about her future in the tribe, The Reno Gazette-Journal reports.

"Oh, my God, you're white," a tribal member reportedly told her. "You won't last long."

Three months later, Kerry was fired. She says tribal members found out she wasn't Indian and she also says she started to uncover misuse of funds.

Kerry is now suing, apparently in tribal court. "I'm hoping this case will start a discussion," she tells the paper. "Should we as Americans have to lose our civil rights by driving to work everyday?"
