Three Native boys killed in house fire laid to rest

Three boys who died in a house fire last week were laid to rest on the Pukatawagan Reserve in Manitoba on Monday.

Troi and Robert Castel-Lapansee, aged three and four, and their five-year-old cousin, Letrel Bighetty-Castel, died of smoke inhalation when their trailer home was destroyed by fire on March 12. Authorities are still trying to determine the cause.

The boys were grandchildren of Mathias Colomb First Nation Chief Shirley Castelm. Relatives said they loved spending time outdoors.

"They liked to hunt. They liked to watch people, canoe. They liked to go on skidoo rides. They loved the bush. They loved the outdoors," Mavis Caribou said, CBC News reported.
