Crow veteran nominated for Medal of Freedom

Joe Medicine Crow, the oldest living veteran of the Crow Tribe of Montana, has been nominated for the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Crow, 94, was nominated by Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana). The medal is the highest civilian honor an American can receive.

Crow served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was recognized as a warrior by his tribe for completing all four actions of counting coups in Europe.

Crow also was the first tribal member to earn a master's degree. He has written books on Crow culture and is leading Crow historian.
