Northwest colleges sign education treaty

Five colleges and universities in Idaho and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding to recruit and retain more Indian students.

The University of Idaho, Washington State University, Lewis-Clark State College, North Idaho College and Northwest Indian College will participate. They will work directly with tribes to bring more tribal students to their campuses, collaborate with each other and improve their Native studies programs.

"Your presence today demonstrates the increasing educational opportunities for American Indians, and service and outreach with American Indian tribes," said Barbara Aston, tribal liaison for Washington State University, The Lewiston Tribune reported.
