North Fork Rancheria chair abruptly resigns

Jacque Davis-Van Huss, the chairwoman of the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California, abruptly resigned on Tuesday after just six months on the job.

Davis-Van Huss would not elaborate to KFSN on her reasons for leaving. But she reportedly resigned due to "recent events" that forced her to re-evaluate her future with the tribe.

KFSN said the Madera County sheriff is looking into allegations of misuse of tribal funds. Davis-Van Huss is reportedly not a target.

Since becoming chair, Davis-Van Huss testified before the House on land-into-trust and gaming issues. The tribe is currently pursuing an off-reservation casino.

Davis-Van Huss also testified before the Senate about the nomination of Bob McSwain to be director of the Indian Health Service. McSwain is a member of the North Fork Rancheria.
