Ohio museums field more repatriation requests

Museums and educational institutions in Ohio are learning more and more about the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990.

The law requires institutions that received federal funding to repatriate ancestors and artifacts to their tribal owners. Ohio State University, the Ohio Historical Society and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History have started working with tribes and have returned some remains and items already.

The institutions aren't just dealing with Native people either. Countries like Brazil and Egypt have been filing claims on items that were taken from their borders.
